Down and up |
Description: |
The stretch of the Rabbit Line where I watched countless Southern Pacific freights roll in and out of Shreveport between 1985 and 1992. At night the old Espee oscilating Mars lights would eerily illuminate the surrounding trees, even before the train had even come into view, and more than anything they sent a clear message into the darkness: something is coming; get out of the way! The modern ditch lights just don't come close. I am still fascinated by the long downward and upward arc of the tracks as it crosses the Crabapple Street grade crossing. |

Suburban disturbance |
Description: |
Not sure what they were thinking when they lined a couple of miles of this line with ranch houses in the 1970s. Did they think SP was just gonna go away? |
