| This line - the original Texas & Pacifc main from Shreveport to New Orleans - was built in the early 1880s and abandoned in the late 1950s. Most of the rails south of here were pulled up decades before, but the last two miles or so remained into the 1980s. Several boxcars sat abandoned on the remaining tracks, north of the Bert Kouns grade crossing. Later in 1988, the cars were removed, and the last couple of miles of track were pulled up, almost 100 years after they were first laid. |
